Dividing By Zero by Shira-chan Dividing By Zero by Shira-chan
This is why you can't divide by zero! :)

I actually heard a mathematician on a podcast describe it sort of like this (thought without the monster), and I've wanted to do this comic ever since. Originally this was going to be done using oranges, but then I accidentally made the monster orange and liked him better that way! So I had to come up with a different fruit!

Love it!

And I really love how this looks like it was done using paper cut outs.  Fantastic!

Well, considering that you're trying to figure out how many times can you fit zero into a set amount, and considering that zero is a placeholder for the lack of any amount, positive or negative, and everything else represents a certain amount, either positive or negative, I think it's easy to say that if you divide by zero, the end result will always be zero, as you can't annihilate an existing amount - either positive or negative - by division.

Except the result isn't zero. Go onto any calculator ever and try to divide anything by zero and the answer is "ERROR", NOT zero. Because if you're trying to divide ten fruits between zero people, the answer is NOT that each person gets zero fruits... because there are no people, and you still have your ten fruits at the beginning of the equation.

Divide by Zero?

Into the Black Hole (of a stomach) you go!

This is a very funny and intuitive way of describing it.

I'm studying to be an elementary school teacher. If this is every available as a print, I'm buying it and putting it up in my classroom! This is a brilliant idea!
