I get reeeeaallly nervous when it comes to talking to the subjects of my Hero Worship. I still feel like a total amateur, and like I'm being super presumptuous assuming that I'm even in the same league as them, that I think I can talk to them as a peer instead of as a fan. A friend of mine who's a cartoonist just called Tom Beland one night out of the blue after reading his True Story, Swear to God, and while he was on the phone, he was all, "Do you want to say anything to Tom?"

Of course I would! I would love to! But what the heck would I say?? XD So I panicked and said no. This happens to me a lot! It took me a year to finally send a comic to Scott McCloud that he'd inspired me to do!
