So I've decided to start a Tumblr. I figure, I may not have time to do a webcomic or a full comic book project or whatever right now, but I can do one little doodle every day over my lunch breaks at work. So that's just what I'm going to do! Every day, you'll get a new little doodle from me! Sometimes it'll be comic book stuff or TV show stuff or just random whatever stuff. And the original artwork for every doodle I post will be available for purchase for $30 (no shipping fees!). Check it out, and feel free to follow my Tumblr!

EDIT: I also finally set up a Society6 page, where you can buy prints and stuff of my artwork. You can even get some of it as phone covers and throw pillows! The pillows are awesome, I love them :) Check it out!

So... I'm thinking of taking the plunge...

I'm pretty confident I'm going to get hired for a part-time contract graphic design position for a local marketing company, and to do that, I'd have to quit my full-time job. It would mean a LOT less money, but I would be doing something that I really really WANT to be doing.

Rather than get a second part-time job to supplement the smaller paychecks, I think I'm going to try full-time freelancing. I'm super nervous and super scared because if this doesn't work out, I'll probably end up getting evicted for not paying rent, but this has been something I've been wanting to do for absolutely forever, and I think if I really work at it, I could just barely scrape by.

Right now, I'm very open to advice, suggestions, whatever for places to advertise, ways to market myself, how to budget or track invoices, or whatever, honestly. Any useful anything would be super appreciated!

Trying not to panic about this but the more I think about it the more freaked out I get, but I think I want to go for it but I'm so nervous aaaahhhhh!

So I don't know WHAT just happened, but my inbox has been exploding all over itself the last couple of days. Usually that only happens if someone posted one of my comics to reddit or 9gag or something, but I haven't been able to find any new evidence of me anywhere. What the heck happened out on the internets while I wasn't looking??

In other news, I'm trying to get arts done more often, but free time is scarce. That being said, I'm back to drawing my Fluffernutters webcomic, so check back on that like every Wednesday for a new comic strip.

I'm also working on a new comic book series. I met pulp fiction writer Sean Taylor several years ago at a comic book convention, and after I did some last-minute artwork for him for a trading card thingy, he fell instantly in love with my arting skills and begged me to be the artist of a comic rebooting his pulp novella series, Fishnet Angel. After putting him off for like a year because I didn't have the time to do a comic, I finally realized I'll never have the time to do a comic, so I just had to squeeze the work into what little time I do have. So, slowly but surely, I'm turning out the pages, though not nearly as quickly as I would like.

What I really need is a sciencemagic serum that makes it so I don't have to sleep at night, but still be rested and energized for work in the morning, so I can go to work all day, and then draw comics all night. If anyone has anything like that, let me know. I will pay you so many dollars for that*.

*Disclaimer: I do not have that many dollars.

Still Alive

7 min read
Surprise! I'm still alive! I don't update this journal nearly as often as I should. It mostly just boils down to me being lazy. But the good news is, because I've waited so long for this, I actually have a lot of stuff to talk about.

First thing, me and my boyfriend just moved into our very own apartment (yay!) that is much closer to work, so I don't have an hour and a half commute anymore, which is awwesomme! Go us! We don't have internet set up yet, so the only internet time I have is while I'm at work, but once it's set up, I'm considering doing some Livestream broadcasts of me doing my artwork. If I did something like that, would anybody watch it? Let me know!

Next thing... I should have brought this up ages and ages ago, but I forgot... Remember the book cover I did for my buddy Suzanne for her very first published novel ever? No? Here's a reminder...

Mirror, Mirror by Shira-chan

Well, that book is finished and published and available for purchase so you can have one of your very own! Not only does it have my super pretty artwork on the cover, but the book itself is fantastic. The main character is strong and likable, the magic of the world is unique and interesting, and I love the different twist on a classic fairy tale story. I highly recommend picking it up: www.amazon.com/Autobiography-E…

Next next thing, me and TamsTheGenkiQueen have been working on a secret project for a while now, and I sort of accidentally announced it on Facebook before we agreed to... In my defense, Tams had finally finished her next part of it and it was really pretty and I got all excited and junk, and sort of forgot that we had agreed to wait... But anyway. We're working on an online comic called Shot From the Hip, which is a spontaneously collaborative comic. What does that mean? It means that we're each taking a turn drawing a page of this comic, but there's no script, and we're not telling each other what's going to happen next. So you end up with a campfire story style comic, where one person tells one part of the story, then the next person picks it up from there, and so on. So far it's really cool and really fun, and if Tams can get her pages turned out faster (hint hint, poke poke) then I can see this being a pretty successful experimental comic: shotfromthehip.thecomicseries.…

And I think the final thing for right now is I just went to an art festival over the weekend, and I have a bunch of extra prints left over from the event. So if you've ever wanted a copy of one of my pictures, I do have some available. They're $5 for the little 5x7" ones, and $10 for 8.5x11", no shipping charges for you whatsoever. So if you're interested, drop me a devNote or email me at ninja.shira@gmail.com any time. Here are the prints I currently have available:

$10 - 8.5 x 11" Prints

Daft Punk Love by Shira-chan Glass Girl Commission - Terrarium Bubbles by Shira-chan Tangled in the Forest by Shira-chan

$5 - 5 x 7" Prints

Glass Girl Commission - Full of Sky by Shira-chan Glass Girl Commission - Inked by Shira-chan Glass Girl Commission - Deep Sea by Shira-chan Aquarium Girl by Shira-chan

I only have so many of each of these, so it's first come first serve. If you want one, let me know soon so you can ensure you get one.

And in closing, if any of y'all read Fluffernutters, my autobiographical comic strip, I promise I fully intend on working on it again in the future. I'm just trying to figure out how to work the time to do it into my schedule. Hopefully now that I live closer to work and spend less time commuting, I'll have some time to draw the strip at home. Crossing my fingers that I can get some new strips done soon! In the meantime, feel free to read through the archives. There isn't a whole lot there, but it's still stinking cute if you ask me: fluffernutters.thecomicseries.…

Ciao for now!
